Paul Bush, 34, 401A Wells Drive, has been arrested on charges of burglary, vandalism, and theft after he confessed to breaking into local businesses.

According to a report from the Macon County Sheriff's Department, Deputies Michael Veatch, Grant Malo, and Sgt. Bennie Hudgens were dispatched to a burglary alarm Saturday night, May 8, at 9 p.m. Officers arrived at Macon Recycle on Twins Lane off the Akersville Road and found where someone had pried open the front door of the business.

Macon County Detective Mark Gammons was dispatched to the scene. When Detective Gammons arrived on the scene, he found where someone had attempted to change a flat tire. Also at the scene were the tracks from the vehicle that appeared to be driving on the rim of the car. Sgt. Hudgens followed the tracks to 401A Wells Drive. At that time, Detective Gammons arrived at Wells Drive and located Paul Bush.

Bush was transported to the Macon County Sheriff's Department for questioning. During the interview, it was discovered that Bush went to the recycling center to obtain a tire for his vehicle. He allegedly stated he took a tire tool and pried open the front door and heard a beep noise which was the alarm sounding. He then reportedly, took the tire tool and knocked the alarm off the wall and then attempted to break open the cash register. He was unable to open the cash register so he left the business and traveled to his home.

During the extensive interview, Bush admitted to breaking and entering Hidden Treasures on April 29. He reportedly admitted to entering through a back window and taking approximately $200 in cash, jewelry, ceramic dolls, and other items valued at $2000. The cost to repair the window is approximately $500.

Bush also reportedly confessed to breaking and entering into White's Speed Wash on Scottsville Road. He stated he entered through a crawl space on April 29, and took approximately 200 boxes of washing powders and a stereo. Total value is $550. That same night, he confessed that he also broke into Macon Recycle Center and stole a car battery and a radiator.

According to Detective Gammons, this case is still under investigation and more arrests are expected to come.

Bush is charged with burglary, vandalism, and theft. He is scheduled to appear in General Sessions June 9. At press time, no bond had been set.
