The child reportedly suffered severe trauma resulting from a head injury and remained in critical care at Vanderbilt until Monday, April 19. The incident reportedly occurred on April 8.
According to Lafayette Police Chief Jerry Dallas, as of Monday, the child had been removed from intensive care and is now in a regular room at Vanderbilt. Further information on the child's condition is unknown.
Carroll appeared in court and was appointed a lawyer. His case was then continued to May 5, at 9 a.m. He remains housed at the Macon County Jail on $50,000 bond.
