An 18-month-old remains in critical condition at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital after authorities reported a case of child abuse in Lafayette.

According to Lafayette Police Lt. Bryan Satterfield, Terry Carroll was arrested Thursday night for aggravated child abuse and aggravated assault.

Carroll, 27, of Cothron Drive, reportedly injured the child to the extent that it caused severe head trauma.

The 18 month old was treated at Macon County Emergency Room early Thursday morning, April 8, and then flown to Vanderbilt by Air Evac. Authorities are not releasing what allegedly happened to the child.

The Lafayette Police Department began investigating the case after they received a call from the Department of Children's Services concerning the accident. Lt. Satterfield and Detective Stacy Gann interviewed several doctors and spoke with family members before arresting Carroll.

Carroll is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court April 21. He remains lodged at the Macon County Jail on $50,000 bond.

At press time the child remains in critical condition at Vanderbilt.

The Lafayette Police Department is still investigating this case.
