David Allen Filson, age 46, of Hartsville, was pronounced dead on arrival after a vehicle driven by a juvenile from Lafayette struck and killed him.

According to a report from Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. William "Butch" Avera, the accident occurred on Highway 10 at Beech Grove Church on Wednesday, February 25, at 5:50 p.m.

The juvenile was traveling south on Highway 10 at Beech Grove Church in a 2003 Ford Mustang. Allegedly the driver was eating a hamburger when he dropped something. While his attention was diverted, he veered off the west shoulder and struck Filson who was checking his mailbox. Filson was knocked into the side of a garage. The juvenile's vehicle ran off into a private drive and struck a vehicle head on, belonging to Filson, that was parked in the driveway. The parked vehicle then rolled on it's side at impact facing south west. Filson was pronounced dead on arrival at the scene of the traffic crash.

The juvenile suffered minor injuries and charges are pending in the investigation.

Sgt. Avera was assisted by THP Trooper Shannon Brinkley and Trooper Ashley Mercer.

David Allen Filson is survived by a daughter and her fiancee, Annette Young and Joel Jones, of the Old Bottom Community; his mother, Lucille Filson, of Lafayette, a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Brenda Filson, two grandchildren, Tiara Paige Filson and Taylor Renea Young and two nieces and a nephew. He was employed at Indiana Hardwoods in Gordonsville as a fork lift driver.

Funeral services for David Allen Filson were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 28, at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home.
