Lafayette Elementary School, located on Meador Drive, was burglarized Friday, February 13, for the second time in the last month.
According to Lafayette Police Lt. Bryan Satterfield, early Friday morning at approximately 4 a.m. Sgt. Ray Amalfitano and Officer Jeff Tucker were dispatched to Lafayette Elementary School. Upon arrival the officers spoke to a kitchen employee. The employee stated that when she arrived she found several doors to the school had been pried open.
At that time Lt. Matt Looper arrived on the scene. Lt. Looper, Sgt. Amalfitano, and Officer Tucker canvassed the school and it was discovered that several other rooms were broken into.
Due to recent school break ins in Macon and surrounding counties, Lt. Bryan Satterfield and Detective Stacy Gann were called to the scene.
Several pictures were taken and evidence was gathered. Once teachers arrived and were able to evaluate their rooms, it was determined that a laptop computer, a keyboard, a stereo player, and an undisclosed amount of change was taken.
This case is still under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department. Authorities believe that this latest break-in is connected to the recent break-ins that have occurred in Red Boiling Springs, Westmoreland, and Hermitage Springs.
