Three separate officers reported robberies at three schools during the past week with the first occurring at Lafayette Middle School.
Lafayette Police Department Sgt. Tim Perry spoke to Lafayette Middle School Principal Carl Gregory on Thursday, January 15. According to the report, Principal Gregory stated that sometime between January 14 at 6 p.m. and January 15 at 7 a.m. some person or persons gained entry into the school and then into the principal's office. The person then entered a safe and took approximately $50 in cash, two rolls of quarters, and one roll of pennies. A money bag with approximately $200 was also taken. Items in the office were disturbed but nothing else was reported missing.
The second report was made by Lafayette Police Officer Adam Swindle Saturday, January 17. This time the break in occurred at Central where Officer Swindle spoke to a teacher. The teacher stated that when she entered the school she found the principal's office open. Reportedly the door was opened by force. The suspects then broke a pencil machine looking for money. Stolen from the office were two CB radios. The person or persons then entered several classrooms where two empty money bags were later found. A palm pilot and the cradle was taken from the library. Several other rooms were entered but the LPD is unaware at this time of items taken.
The third report came from Red Boiling Springs Assistant Police Chief Steve Evans. According to this report, the Red Boiling Springs High School, located at 415 Hillcrest Drive, was burglarized sometime between 10:30 p.m. on January 18 and 12:30 p.m. on January 19. It is unknown at this time how the suspects gained entry at the schools.
At RBSHS the person entered several classrooms of the school and stole approximately $550. No other items were taken. Several items were disturbed but according to Chief Terry Tuck investigators can find no other items missing.
