Tigerettes go one and one in Nera White Invitational

One half of tournament host, the MCHS Tigerettes advanced to second round of play when they defeated Portland on Saturday, Dec. 27.

Portland led at the half but had a cold third quarter when the Tigerettes outscored the Lady Panthers 15-6 to take advantage of the back and forth game

Portland came from behind with a big fourth quarter to tie things and send the game into overtime, but the tourney hosts outscored the Lady Panthers 16-6 in the extra period to take the win.

The Tigerettes blew a chance to win the game at the end of regulation, but missed a pair of free throws.

In overtime Tia Troutt and Kristin Wix each scored six points to lead the way. Wix finished with a game high 25 points for Macon County. The final overtime score found Macon County on top by ten with a score of Macon County 57, Portland 47.

With one win in the record books the Tigerettes advanced to second round of play and butted heads with the number 1 seeded Westmoreland Eaglettes. The teams took the court ready to rumble and put some points on the scoreboard.

Macon County gets the tip off but has difficulty getting a basket. Westmoreland puts the first points on the scoreboard with a three point shot. Number 52 Kristan Wix puts the ball up, draws a foul and goes to the line to put two on the board for Macon County. Tigerette Brandi Sircy grabs the rebound on a missed shot by Eaglette Lydia Hunt and passes to Wix who goes out of bounds. Westmoreland turns the ball back over and Macon County leads four to three. With Westmoreland applying full court pressure and Macon County in a 2-3 zone the first quarter ends in a tie 6-6.

Courtney Thomas shoots for three and scores early in the second with Macon County going on top 9-6. Westmoreland forces Kristin Wix into her third foul for the Tigerettes knowing this could be big trouble for hosting team. Westmoreland has two unanswered scores and leads by one. Courtney Thomas drives and draws a foul and goes to the line to tie the game 11-11. The two teams go back and forth with Courtney Thomas scoring a three pointer and putting Macon County in the lead once again 14-12. Holly Compton attempts to kill the clock and keep the lead for the Tigerettes but Eaglette Jenny Perry steals the ball and gives Westmoreland the lead 15, Macon County 14. The Tigerette team go into the intermission falling into Westmoreland
