Officials have issued and served a warrant on inmate Malcolm Jenkins in the death of 59 year old Fred Hyatt.
Hyatt was murdered on the job about two weeks ago at the Middle Tennessee Correctional Complex in Nashville.
According to reports released by authorities, an inmate was out of his cell, hit Hyatt over the head, and then strangled him. The inmate was later identified as Jenkins.
Jenkins was originally incarcerated in Macon County for several crimes. He was now reportedly serving time for theft and weapons charges and would have been eligible for release later this month.
Jenkins was transferred to the correctional complex several months ago according to Macon County Jail Administrator Judy Blankenship.
Police said more charges could be filed against other inmates who may have played a part in Hyatt's murder.
