With an only 7.6% absenteeism rate, as of December 8th, Macon County schools have not been hit as hard by flu as many schools in neighboring counties. Red Boiling Springs High and Red Boiling Springs Elementary School have been hit hardest, with approximately 11-14% of students out of school with flu or other illness. At the December 11th meeting of the Macon County Board of Education, Director of Schools, Mike Prock, said "At this time, there is no need to close down our schools due to flu."

In other news, the Board approved a school trip request for RBS agriculture classes to attend a National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, KY, on Feb. 11, 2004. They approved $7,800 to Hunter Construction for framing a maintenance building, and $7,779 to Hix Cabinets for new cabinets in the RBS Home Economics classroom. The Board authorized bids for three, new school buses.
