Macon County Fair set for August 4-9

Fair catalogs for the 2003 Macon County Fair are available throughout the county as Fair Board members and local residents get ready for the annual event.

Fair catalogs detailing the events of the 2003 Macon County Fair can be picked up at the Macon -Trousdale Farmers Co-Op, the Agriculture Extension Services office, all Lafayette and Red Boiling Springs banks, and at the Chamber of Commerce.

This year's fair has been dedicated to everyone who has served or currently serve in the US Military.

This year's fair will be August 4 - August 9, with the annual Demolition Derby scheduled for Saturday night, August 2.

Admission to this year's fair will be $1 for children age 6-12; adults $5 on August 2; $3 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and $5 on Friday and Saturday. Children 6 and under will be admitted free with their parents.

On Tuesday night, August 5, all students in grades K-12 in a Macon County school will be admitted free.

Armbands will be available each night of the fair. On Monday night, armbands will cost $10. Armbands will cost $12 on Tuesday night, Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday night . Wednesday night will be Church Night Arm Band Special with the armband costing $8.

Admission to daytime activities will be $1, without re-admission for night time activities.

Friday, August 1, will be used for commercial building set-up and booth set-up in the Sally Wells Building.

On Saturday, August 2, will be used for Extension Homemakers Club Booth set-up, youth exhibits set-up and the Macon County Schools Exhibit set-up.

Fair exhibits will be accepted from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 3.

The carnival rides and the first BIG event of the Fair will get underway Monday night, August 4, with the annual pageants.

Monday night will see new winners crowned in Little Miss Macon County Fair, Petite Miss Macon County Fair, Macon County Fair Sweetheart, Macon County Fair Princess, and Macon County Fairest of the Fair. Pageants get underway at 5:30 p.m.

The deadline to enter these events has been set for Friday, July 25. An entry form appears in this week's edition of the paper.

Snowbird will also be at the fair Monday night from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Tuesday night, August 5, will feature the Baby Show, which is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. The deadline to enter the Baby Show is also scheduled for this Friday, July 25. An entry form appears in this week's edition of the paper.

Also scheduled for Tuesday are the Young Cattleman's Show at 6 p.m., the Commercial Beef Heifer Show at 6:15 p.m. , the Beef Show at 6:30 p.m., the Pedal Pull at 7 p.m. and the Battle of the Battery Powered vehicles at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, August 6, will feature a Goat Show, scheduled for a 6 p.m. start and the Lawn Mower Pull set for a 7 p.m. start.

A free concert featuring the Silver Eagle band, which includes local Terry Gregory on Steel Guitar, will be in the Martha Wilburn Building on Wednesday.

Senior Citizens Day will be Thursday, August 7. Events are planned for all day, beginning at 9 a.m. Bingo is set for 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. will feature a free lunch for all Senior Citizens.

Senior Citizens Day will also feature the annual Ms. Senior Macon County Pageant scheduled for a 7 p.m. start time. Deadline to enter the Ms. Senior Macon County Pageant is July 31. An entry form appears in this week's edition of the paper.

Also on Thursday night, the Sheep Show will get underway at 6 p.m. and the Antique Tractor Pull is scheduled to stat at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday night, the annual Talent Show is set for a 7 p.m. start, with the winner set to open the Jett Williams Concert in May 2004. Divisions in the Talent Show this year will include Children up to age 12; ages 12 - 18; adult; and overall winner.

Also set to start at 7 p.m. on Friday is the Tractor Pull.

Henry Hinton's Border Collies will be performing on Thursday night and Friday night. Check the fair catalog for specific times.

Saturday, August 9, will be the final day of the 2003 Macon County Fair. Marble lessons for all ages will be given at 11 a.m., with the marble Tournament set for 4 p.m. in the Martha Wilburn building.

The annual Pet Show will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The final scheduled event for the 2003 Macon County Fair will be the Truck Pull, set for a 7 p.m. start Saturday night.
