Macon County Executive Glen Donoho, as well as members of the Macon County Budget Committee, requested that all county departments cut 5% from the 2003-2004 budget.

This did not come as a surprise to any departments; however, several had already made a large cut and now must reevaluate and make an even larger cut.

The budget committee will meet again July 14 to discuss the latest cuts.

Members of the commission agreed to approve the Senate Bill/House Bill during the Monday, July 7, meeting of the Macon County Committee as a Whole. This bill is to authorize the regulation of certain and abandoned, wrecked, dismantled, junked or inoperative motor vehicles in Macon County. For a copy of Senate Bill 2043, by Senator Mae Beavers, contact your local county commissioner.

Resolution #1, MCGH ambulance contract failed before the commissioners; however, resolution #2 passed to the full body.

Resolution 2 states, "First three receipts from boarding prisoners of the 2003-2004 fiscal year be deposited by the Trustee in the county general fund."

The final item on the resolution states that the intention of the Commission is to authorize the County Trustee to deposit the first three receipts from the boarding of prisoners directly to the General Fund Revenue line item for the operating expenses of the Justice Center.

According to Macon County citizen and former County Commissioner, Tom Woosley, this can not be done. Woosley states that the citizens were under the impression that the money generated from the Justice Center would go toward the debt from the Justice Center.

The resolution was passed on to the legislative body and will be discussed at the Monday, July 21 meeting.

Gene Holland, Holland Construction, spoke to the commissioners and requested that Lauren Lane and John Henry Lane be placed on the county road list. He was advised to speak to road supervisor, Glenn Ray. Ray would then present his findings at the next meeting.

Three Budget Amendments were passed to the full body. Number 1 stated: A resolution to amend the current 02-03 Macon County Budget and to appropriate fund in accordance with said amendment for the General Fund to include the Budget Committee/Other Boards and Committees. Number 2 stated: A resolution to amend the current 2002-2003 General Fund for the Jail. This would include a decrease in expenditures for dispatchers of $991.57 and an increase in account $35.51, Guards $150.63, Cafeteria Personnel $805.37, and custodial supplies at $0.06. The third budget amendment was the General Fund for Macon Helps to allow for temporary personnel for the store.

Mike Prock, School Director, and Sheriff Joe Ferguson did not have anything to present to the commissioners.

The next scheduled meeting of the commissioners is set for Monday, July 21, at 7 p.m.
