Mother Nature threw a round-house curve ball at the young ladies playing ball in the Macon County Girls' Softball League last week when the rains washed-out several of the scheduled games. The Macon County Parks and Recreation Association had to make some last minute revisions to the schedule in order to try and keep season ending tournaments from being pushed further into the summer, and into the vacation season. In order to do so, a couple of the Coach Pitch Division teams wound up playing three games on Saturday, along with a Senior Fast Pitch Division game, and two Junior Fast Pitch Division games, which ended their regular season.

Last Friday night saw the young ladies from Cumberland Bank clinch another regular season Junior Fast Pitch Division title as they held off the second place Macon County Chronicle Rebels 5-3. Cumberland Bank completed a season sweep of the rest of the league on Saturday when they grounded the V.F.W. Rockets by a score of 5-1 to put their record at 10-0 for the year. With second place up for grabs, the Macon County Chronicle Rebels came from behind in the final inning of a seesaw game to take a 6-5 victory over North Central Computer Technologies.

In the Coach Pitch Division, the Subway girls displayed too much fire power for the rest of the league as they clinched first place by defeating the Lafayette Hometown Foods Li'l Rebels, who took second for the season.

Due to the weather related postponements, the Junior Fast Pitch Division Tournament will be played, if at all possible, throughout this week. North Central Telephone, Jr. will take on the V.F.W. Rockets, and the Krystal Chiks will face North Central Computer Technologies in the first two games of the double elimination tournament. Both Cumberland Bank and the Macon County Chronicle Rebels will await the winners of the first two games. At present, the tournament is slated to be completed on Friday night, ending with trophy presentations to the first and second place teams from the season as well as the tournament. Finally, the Junior Fast Pitch Division All Star Team will be announced, with each one receiving a trophy.

The Coach Pitch Division tournament is currently set for Saturday, June 21st, with the number two seed Lafayette Hometown Foods Li'l Rebels facing the number five seed at 8:30 a.m. on the Harvey George Field. The number three seed 1st Trust Title will play the number four seed at 8:30 a.m. on the smaller field behind Central Elementary School. The number one seed Subway earned a bye and will swing into action at 10:30 a.m. on the smaller field. The fourth and fifth seeded teams will be determined after this week's play is completed. The two teams vying for those positions are Town & Country Finance and the Macon Bank, Jr. Li'l Rockets.

The Senior Fast Pitch Division is also swiftly drawing near to season's end. Their tournament is currently scheduled for Saturday, June 28th.

All scheduled games are subject to change if inclement weather becomes a factor. Revisions will be posted at the ballpark concession stand(s). Also, the latest rainout information will be placed on the M.C.P.R.A.'s telephone answering machine, which can be reached by dialing 688-BALL (688-2255).
