According to a report from Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Butch Avera a routine traffic stop leads to the arrest of one adult and one juvenile.
Michael Wayne York, 19, Lafayette, was reportedly traveling north on Hwy 10 south, near the Old Bottom Road, when he was stopped by Sgt. Avera. at approximately 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, May 27.
Sgt. Avera reported that York was allegedly stopped for reckless driving. Upon stopping the vehicle Sgt. Avera reported that York was not wearing his seat belt.
Avera said, "During the search I found 1/2 lb of marijuana, scales, and baggies."
He was charged with possession of scheduled VI, possession for resale, possession with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed weapon, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was released from custody May 29, on a $9,000 bond.
Also charged in the incident was a 17 year old juvenile from Lafayette. The juvenile was charged with simple possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of tobacco products by a minor. The minor was released to his mother and is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court June 26.
According to Sgt. Avera, the marijuana had a street value of $1200 to $1400.
THP Lt. Vic Donoho and Macon County Sheriff's Deputy Bill Cothron assisted Avera in the arrest.
THP Brinkley and a K-9 unit reportedly hit on the trunk of the vehicle and found a box that contained a blunt. A blunt is allegedly used to smoke marijuana.
York is scheduled to appear in General Sessions June 13, at 1 p.m.
