Red Boiling Springs Mayor Randel Gregory won his bid for re-election in what many local election watchers are calling one of the lowest voter turnouts in Macon County history.

A total of 121 registered voters took the time to cast their vote during the most recent RBS City Election.

Thirty-five of those voted during the two week early voting period, with only 86 going to RBS City Hall last Saturday to vote.

Gregory, who was running unopposed, had 85 votes in his bid for re-election to a third consecutive term and a fourth term overall as RBS mayor.

Two of three incumbent members of the RBS City Council won their bid for re-election, with Shirley Russell leading all candidates with 80 votes.

Incumbent Bobby Etheridge received 64 votes in his bid to re-election to the council.

Former RBS mayor and city councilman Tommy Spivey also received 64 votes in his effort to return to the city council.

Incumbent city council member Terry Turner received 53 votes in his bid for re-election and will not be returning to the city council.

The election is expected to be certified by the Macon County Election Commission this Thursday, May 1.

Winners in the RBS City Election will be sworn in on Monday, May 12, at 12:01 p.m.
