Funeral services for Bessie Lee Davis Hewitt, age 101, of Lafayette, TN, were conducted Sunday, Feb. 23, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN, with Rev. Don Rhoads and Bro. Paul Hewitt officiating. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, and her grandsons served as active pallbearers. Interment was in Anderson & Son Memorial Park in Lafayette, TN.

Bessie Hewitt passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at Macon County General Hospital.

A native of Smith County, she was the daughter of the late Marshall and Mary Russell Davis. She was married to World War I veteran John Leslie Hewitt on July 10, 1921, who preceded her in death on April 1, 1965. She was also preceded in death by daughter, Alean Givens; and sons, James and Marshall Hewitt. Bessie was a homemaker and a member of the Willette Mission-ary Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Melba and Ken Leonard, Sr., of Murfreesboro; and son and daughter-in-law, Arlis and Ruby Hewitt of Lafayette; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
