A motion was made by Commissioner Jerry Ray to once again allow the highway department to purchase a Caterpillar. For many weeks now the commissioners have been debating over purchasing a Caterpillar road grader or a New Holland. Once the bids were presented to the commissioners and several saw that the New Holland equipment bid was almost $57,000 less than the Caterpillar, several commissioners wanted the committee who consisted of Commissioner Merlin Driver, Commissioner Jerry Ray, and Road Supervisor Glen Ray to reconsider the bids.
The commissioners then heard from a representative from New Holland and from Caterpillar.
Commissioner Lindbergh Dennis stated that two RG170s were located in Union City and Mayersville, TN also had two graders which they had owned for a total of 3 years. Dennis wanted the committee to look at these graders. He also stated that the Cities of Whitehouse, Spingfield, Hendersonville, and Murfreesboro, all had New Holland equipment and he would request that the committee drive to these places to look them over.
Commissioner Ray said, "Those are cities roads, not county roads."
After once again asking the CAT representative if he would consider lowering his bid, Jerry Ray made a motion to purchase the CAT. The motion was approved with a 13-6 vote and one commissioner passing.
The commissioners approved the motion to elect Notaries Public who are Irma Rose Veniqus, Ray Comer, Jerry W. Walker, and Renee West.
The discussion of Heine Lane's water was also on the agenda. County Executive Donoho reported that the reason that Henie Lane was approved was because they had been denied over four times. Donoho said, "I had no idea we had so many people in Macon County that didn't have water. It's a shame they have to haul water."
The matter concerning the Assistant Judicial Commissioner was also on the agenda. It was decided to go with the recommendation of the County Attorney that Geralds remain on suspension without pay until the legal matter is settled.
Macon County Sheriff Joe Ferguson requested that all commissioners remember Deputy Tammy Wright who is currently serving active duty in Kuwait.
The commissioners approved budget amendments 1-5 and also resolutions 1-5.
A vote was then taken to insure that any material must be brought before the committee as a whole before it can be put on the agenda at the legislative body meeting.
All minutes from meetings of the joint economic and community development industrial board, committee as a whole, loss control, Macon County employee health insurance committee, and the salary study committee were approved.
The next scheduled meeting of the Macon County Committee as a Whole is scheduled for Monday, March 3, at 6 p.m.
