According to Lt. Bryan Satterfield, in a telephone interview, a man entered the Capitol Cash building at approximately 1:30 p.m., Friday, February 21, and requested change for a $10 bill.
Lt. Satterfield stated that the clerk turned around to retrieve the change when the unmasked man yelled for the clerk to turn around and reportedly pointed a handgun at her.
Allegedly the gunman then requested the money located in the cash drawer. When the clerk handed over the money, the gunman, with the gun still pointed at the clerk, yelled at her to lie down on the floor.
The gunman then left the store through the same side door he had entered. At that time the clerk activated the alarm button.
Lafayette Police Sgt. Tim Perry and Officer Keith Tillman were the first officers to arrive on the scene.
Lt. Bryan Satterfield and Detective Stacy Gann arrived shortly after the first two officers to take a statement from the clerk.
The clerk described the gunman as tall and slender, with short stubby light colored hair, in his mid to late 20's. He had two tattoos on each side of his neck. The clerk could identify the right tattoo as being a large round tattoo. He was armed with a blue steel handgun.
Due to the fact that the clerk was threatened but not harmed, Lt. Satterfield requested that she not be interviewed.
The black cash drawer was discovered by Detective Gann and Tennessee Highway Patrol Lt. Vic Donoho at the corner of Ellington Drive and Meador Drive, Saturday, February 22. Several coins and dollar bills were also located at the scene.
Authorities believe that the person was picked up by another person in a vehicle that is being undisclosed at the moment.
Due to the irrelevance of the amount of money taken from the store, Lt. Satterfield wished to withhold that information until the investigation was complete.
