Funeral services for Effie May Spivey Caruthers, age 84, of the Willette Community of Macon County, were conducted Friday, January 31, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs, TN, with Brother Charles Jones officiating. Pallbearers were Dennis Newberry, Joseph Duke, Radford Duke, Travis Davis, Royce Smith, Marty Smith, Tracy Davis. Interment was in Clark Cemetery, in the Goosehorn Community of Whitleyville, TN.

Effie Spivey Caruthers passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2003, at Smith County Memorial Hospital in Carthage.

A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Bedford and Sadie Kirby Spivey. She was married to Dillard "Dick" Caruthers in 1936, who preceded her in death on December 17, 1992. She was also preceded in death by son, Jerry Caruthers; sister, Bertha Wilson; granddaughter, Patricia Smith; and grandson, Garland Duke. Effie was a homemaker.

Survivors include daughter Mrs. Charlotte Hooten, Lafayette; daughters and sons-in-law Jo and Billy Huddleston, Pleasant Shade, Bertie and Cecil Dickerson, Riddleton, Jean and Adolphus Newberry, Red Boiling Springs, Janice and H.G. Asberrry, Moss, Betty and Anthony Hudson, Red Boiling Springs; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
