The annual State Fair convention will be held next weekend in Nashville.

One of the highlights of the annual event will be the Tennessee Fairest of the Fair Pageants scheduled for this Friday night, January 24. During this event, winners in the Fairest of the Fair pageants held at county fairs throughout the state will compete for a state title.

Last August, Kara Day was crowned the 2002 Macon County Fairest of the Fair. Following her crowning, Kara handed out numerous trophies and made special appearances throughout the remainder of the 2002 Macon County Fair.

Kara is the daughter of Troy and Charlotte Day. She is a Senior at Macon County High School. Kara is a four year member of Who's Who Among American High School Students. She served as Junior Class President.

Kara is a member of the Leo Club, a youth group sponsored by the Lions Club.

Kara was also honored to be selected the 2002 Miss Macon County High School and the 2002 Macon County Football Homecoming Queen.

Kara will compete for state honors in the Tennessee Fairest of the Fair pageant next Friday night, January 24. The Annual State Fair Pageant will be held at the Sheraton Nashville Downtown Hotel. The pageant is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Tickets to the event will be available at the door and cost $10.

This year's state Fair Convention will be the eighty-first annual event.

Friday's activities will be highlighted by the Tennessee Fairest of the Fair pageant and Saturday night's events will feature the annual banquet.

During the banquet, county fairs who have earned awards and other honors will be recognized. The Macon County Fair will be eligible for the Champion of Champions Award this year.

Last January, the Macon County Fair was named the Best Small Fair Class A Division in the state during the 80th Annual State Fair Convention.

In 1989, the Macon County Fair was named the Most Improved Fair. In 1991, and again in 1994, the local fair was named the Best Small Fair in the State. In 1999, the Macon County Fair was the second runner-up in this division. Also in 1999, the fair tabloid received 2nd place in that competition.
