Fire reported at White's Hotel

The Lafayette Fire Department responded to a fire call at Whites Hotel, owned by Charles Breland, Friday, January 3, at approximately 10 p.m.

According to a report from Fire Chief Keith Scruggs, a hotel occupant was reportedly sleeping on a couch in the lobby area, when he dropped a cigarette in the cushions of the couch causing the couch to catch on fire.

Severe damage was reported to the lobby area and approximately 20 people had to be evacuated.

Lafayette Police Officer Kevin Woodard suffered smoke inhalation and received oxygen by the Macon County EMS. No other injuries were reported.
