Edith Iness Evans Newberry Caruthers, age 79, a resident of The Palace in Red Boiling Springs, TN, were conducted Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs with Jimmy Cook and Paul Clayton officiating. Her grandsons served as pallbearers. Interment was in the Anderson & Son Memorial Park.

Edith passed away Friday morning, Dec. 20, 2002, at The Palace in Red Boiling Springs.

A native of Clay County, TN, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Lizzie Johnson Evans. She was married to Hilles Caruthers, who preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her son, Bruce Newberry; daughter, Carma Lou Newberry; sister, Marie Hudson; brothers, Robert & Duman Evans; granddaughter, Lisa Newberry; and great-grandson, Cody Newberry. She was an employee at the former Imperial Reading Corp. in Lafayette and a member of the Red Boiling Springs Church of Christ.

Survivors include: sons, Carlos (Jean) Newberry, Wayne (Sandra) Newberry, Terry Newberry, all of Red Boiling Springs, TN, and Bobby (Janet) Newberry, Hendersonville, TN; sisters, Lula Bell Snuffitt, Maudie Kirby and May McCarter, all of Red Boiling Springs, TN, and Josie McCarter, Hartsville, TN; brother, Grover Evans, Tompkinsville, KY; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
