The Macon County, TN native was born March 28, 1940, a daughter of the late C.R. Hire and Beulah Keen Hire. She was retired owner of the Iron Kettle Restaurant and a member of Sycamore Valley Missionary Baptist Church. She was married to Billie Joe Shrum, who preceded her in death Sept. 13, 1998.
She is survived by five daughters, Vickie White, Manteo, NC, Lisa Rhodes, Kill Devil Hills, NC, Jamie Gillis, Portland, TN, Jennifer Shrum, Lafayette, Cindy Deakin, Indianapolis, IN; three sons, Steve Shrum, Lafayette, Brian Shrum & Mark Shrum, both of Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters, Jeraldean Bransford, Lafayette and Shelia Wright, Lebanon, TN; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Joyce D. Shrum were conducted Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, 10 a.m. at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Elder Jerry Shrum officiating. Burial was in Macon County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Nathan Wilson, Richard Bransford, Chad Marshall, Mike Marshall, Brad Bransford and Tony Day.
Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette is in charge of arrangements.
