Brown Wins Medal at State Cross Country Meet

The Macon County High School girls and boys Cross country teams turned in very strong performances during last Saturday's (November 1) TSSAA State A/AA Cross Country Meet held at the Steeplechase Course in Percy Warner Park.

Overall the MCHS Girls team finished the day in 17th place with a team score of 367.

MCHS Senior Mary Brown led the girls cross country team. Brown received a medal for her 12th place finish in the state meet. She turned in her best time of the year, finishing with a time of 19 minutes, 53 seconds.

Tiffany Spurgeon finished the day in 73rd place overall with a time of 22 minutes, 23 seconds.

Senior Rosemary Childress turned in her personal record last Saturday with a time of 23 minutes, 8 seconds. Childress finished the day in 88th place.

Jenny Thompson finished the race in 118th place with a time of 24 minutes, 17 seconds.

Rachel Story finished the day in 156th place with a time of 27 minutes, 18 seconds.

Another personal record for an MCHS girls runner was set by Melissa Bullington, with a time of 27 minutes, 59 seconds.

In the boys competition, only one MCHS boys cross country team member advanced to the state tournament. Senior Kyle Mahaney finished the day in 41st place overall with a strong time of 17 minutes, 26 seconds.
