MCHS Girls Cross Country claims 6th Regional title

The Macon County High School Girls Cross Country team claimed their Sixth Consecutive Region 5 A-AA Cross Country title last week.

The Region 5A-AA meet was held at the Long Hollow Gold Course last Thursday, October 24.

At the regional meet, the top 3 teams, along with the top 10 individual runners earn the opportunity to advance to the State Meet.

Nine teams competed in the Girls Region 5 A-AA meet, with Macon County finishing the event in 1st place overall with a team total of 35 points.

Other teams advancing to the State Meet were 2nd place Station Camp with 59 and 3rd place Davidson Academy with 62.

Other teams placing in the event were 4th place Livingston Academy with 79 and 5th place Portland with 93. Other teams competing in the event were from Friendship Christian, Nashville Christian, East Robertson, and Mt. Juliet Christian.

MCHS Senior Mary Brown led the team in finishing, taking 3rd place overall with a time of 20 minutes, 49 seconds.

Jenny Thompson finished in 8th place with a time of 22 minutes, 54 seconds.

Tiffany Spurgeon finished in 9th place with a time of 22 minutes, 57 seconds.

Rosemary Childress finished in 11th place with a time of 23 minutes, 41 seconds.

Rachel Story finished the day in 24th place with a time of 27 minutes, 13 seconds.

Melissa Bullington finished the day in 33rd place with a time of 29 minutes, 57 seconds.

The 2002 TSSAA State Cross Country Meet is scheduled for this Saturday, November 2 at Percy Warner Park at Steeplechase Course.

The A-AA Girls race is set for a 10 a.m. start time.
