A motion was made and passed to pursue the need for new restrooms at Key Park by the Lafayette City Council members at the regular monthly meeting held Tuesday, September 10.
According to the Council, new restrooms will be built in a better location so they will be more desirable to night time walkers.
The Mayor stated that the City spends too much time cleaning the restrooms because they are in a prime place for vandalism to occur and he would like the new restrooms to be built closer to the pavilion.
The Council authorized Bryan West, Lafayette Recreation Committee Chairman, to move into Phase I for the new playground.
West stated, "This means that we can request proposals for playground equipment. That is all on our part for Phase I. This is a three Phase project. The City is preparing the site by filling in ditches and making other minor repairs."
Chief Dallas spoke to the Council requesting that Officer Ray Amalfitano be confirmed as a full time employee. Amalfitano's probation period ended September 1st. This motion was passed.
The Council also approved the 3% anniversary pay raises for Buddy Head, Robert Hodges, Clint Hestand, Sheila Hunter, Phil Russell, Bryon Satterfield, Matt Kemp, and Jennifer Roark.
Lonnie Stubblefield, Water and Sewer Department, stated that the pumping station on Hwy. 52 and Ellington, is not handling the sewer flow from the businesses on the by-pass. A motion was made to approve work to upgrade this station and to move the station from its current position to east side of the same lot.
The Council also approved to allow the Sewer Department to repair the Industrial Drive sewer line. The cost is estimated at $15,000 to repair approximately 100 ft of line.
