Officer assaulted in domestic dispute

Three arrests have been made after a third 911 call was made to the Lafayette Police Department Monday, September 16.

James Van Perrigo, 36, was charged by Lafayette Police Officer Ray Amalfitano, with domestic assault, possession of schedule VI drug, and possession of a legend drug.

James Earl Perrigo, 66, was charged by LPD Sgt. Tim Perry with disorderly conduct, aggravated assault on an officer, and resisting arrest.

Wanda L. Biggs, 55, was charged by LPD Officer Ray Amalfitano with disorderly conduct, assault on an officer, and resisting arrest.

James V., James E., and Wanda Biggs, are residents of 200 Mulberry Street, Lafayette.

According to a report from Lt. Bryon Satterfield, with the Lafayette Police Department, Sgt. Perry and LPD Officer Jason Roberts responded to two 911 domestic dispute calls at 200 Mulberry Street, Lafayette.

At approximately 4:53 p.m., a third domestic 911 call was investigated by Sgt. Perry and LPD Officer Ray Amalfitano.

Upon arrival at the scene, Sgt. Perry and Officer Amalfitano observed James Van Perrigo sitting in a swing in the yard of 200 Mulberry Street. James V. Perrigo stated that the trouble was inside the house.

At that time, LPD Officer William Head arrived on the scene.

Sgt. Perry and Officer Amalfitano proceeded into the house while Officer Head continued to speak with James Van Perrigo. James V. Perrigo then allegedly became very uncooperative and was attempting to interfere with the investigation. James V. Perrigo allegedly began cursing and threatening bodily harm to the officers at the scene.

At that time James V. Perrigo was placed under arrest by the officers. Perrigo resisted arrest, but the officers were able to control him.

During the arrest of Perrigo, James Earl Perrigo, the father of James Van, attempted to interfere with the arresting officers. James Earl made physical contact with Sgt. Perry at which time James Earl was placed under arrest.

During the arrest of James Earl, Wanda Biggs made physical contact with Sgt. Perry.

Biggs, along with James Earl and James Van were detained.

Wanda L. Biggs was transported to Macon County General Hospital complaining of chest pains.

After a physical examination she was released and then transported to the Macon County Sheriff's Department.

James Earl Perrigo, James Van Perrigo, and Wanda L. Biggs are scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court November 1, 2002.
