Members of the Macon County Sheriff's Department are once again going the extra mile to protect Macon County residents.
Sgt. Mark Gammons, Deputy Troy Griggs, Deputy Jeff Brewer, and Deputy Tammy Wright, Deputy Michael Veatch have organized a Mounted Patrol for Macon County.
The Mounted Patrol is made up of law enforcement men and women horses. This will allow them more mobility at local events in their attempts to protect local citizens.
The program is funded by donations from businesses in the community. Donations were made by Macon Bank & Trust, Cumberland Bank, Country Horse, and Citizens Bank. These donations provided uniforms for the Mounties as well as tack for their horses.
The Deputies use their own horses as well as their own vehicle to transport the horses to and from the events.
"This program is not funded by the Macon County Sheriff's Department," stated, Sgt. Gammons. "We want everyone to know we are doing this on our own time for the good of the community. We want to provide Macon County with better security at local events."
The Mounties can be seen at the Macon County Fair this week. Look for them also in upcoming events such as the Christmas Parade and the Macon County High School football homecoming parade.
The Mounties would like to invite you to talk to them at the Fair so they can better acquaint themselves with members of the community. The Mounties are here to better serve Macon County. Remember to be courteous and respectful of these law enforcement riders and their animals.
