A Red Boiling Springs City Council member was charged with aggravated assault on Friday, June 14.
Jimmy Neal Roark was charged with aggravated assault by Deputy Troy Griggs, Macon County Sheriff's Department.
The arrest is believed to have stemmed from incidents occurring during the Beer Board meeting Thursday, June 13.
According to reports, a businessman in RBS was believed to be upset by information stating he would not be allowed to sale beer at his store. This decision was made by the Beer Board that convened before the City Council meeting.
The beer ordnance in RBS states that businesses are only allowed to sell beer if they are considered a convenience store or a grocery store. The business, S&S Games and Pizza, is not considered either of the two.
An alleged altercation occurred between the business owner and Roark outside of RBS City Hall following last Thursday's City Council meeting.
Assistant Chief Steve Evans, RBS Police Department, would not comment on the matter stating that he did not see the alleged incident occur.
At press time further information was not available.
Roark is scheduled to appear in General Sessions June 28. He has been released on a $2500 bond.
