The Lafayette Lions and Lioness Clubs have announced their 13th Annual Hillbilly Day for this weekend.

This year's event will bring many of the favorite events from years past and will offer over $3,000 in cash prizes for music competitions.

The 13th Annual Macon County Hillbilly Day will be celebrated on June 13, 14, and 15, 2002, at Key Park in Lafayette.

The three-day event will kick-off on Thursday night with a flag raising ceremony at 6 p.m., followed by the Hillbilly Auction. Also planed for Thursday night will be a cakewalk. Arts and Crafts booths will begin setting up at noon on Thursday, so many will be open for customers when the events begin. The Lioness Club will also be hosting a Hillbilly Box supper.

The famous All-U-Can-Eat Fish Fry begins at 4:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon, June 14. For $6 advance price and $7 the night of the fish fry, you can fill up on fish, fries, slaw, Ms. Ercie's famous hush puppies and a drink. Children 12 and under will be charged $4. While you eat, you can enjoy a gospel concert, kicking off at 6 p.m. and lasting throughout the night.

Everything starts early on Saturday morning, June 15. At 10 a.m., the music competition will begin with competitions in Flat Top Guitar, Mandolin, Male and Female Vocalist, Banjo, Buck Dancing, Harmonica, Jr. and Sr. Fiddle, and THE BIG SHOW. The Big Show is the Bluegrass Band Competition, with the 1st place band taking home $700 prize money.

In addition to these events, there will be a Hillbilly Sheriff, contests, arts and crafts booths, rides for the kids, and much. much more.
