Many people never get a chance to take a trip to see the stars, much less win one.

That is exactly what happen to Sheila Kepley.

Sheila, 33, a substitute in the school system has been married to Gary, a project manager at Dietemp, for 13 years. They have two children Tyler 10, and Abby 6.

Kepley said that about three weeks ago she was caller number 5 on News Channel 5. The news station told her she had won a Grammy CD and her name would go into a drawing for the chance to win a trip to the Grammys.

Several days later as she was cooking supper her mother called and said "You won a trip to the Grammys". She said that she didn't believe her. "She's always joking about things like that, but she said no really you won," Kepley stated. "I couldn't believe it, I wasn't even watching the news."

Gary, her husband, was leery of the idea. He told her he wasn't sure it was a good idea to go.

Kepley said, "I made my mind up from the get-go, I was going."

Kepley had never flown before. The trip to LA was new and an exciting prospect.

"I took pictures from the plane," she said. "The plane ride was the most exciting thing about the whole trip."

Sheila's first flight included a delay at St Louis because the plane was covered in ice. When the last flight landed in LA the weather was 82o. A big difference from 40o and below weather in Tennessee.

The trip included two round trip plane tickets, a two night stay, several "goodies" to take home, and meal tickets at a local diner. It also included two Grammy tickets with approximate value of $500.

The Kepleys met other winners from different parts of the country, including a couple from New York. "I really enjoyed meeting the couple from NY," Shelia said, "It was interesting to meet someone who actually lost someone in the Twin Towers."

They also met several famous people including two members of the Survivor Show, and Emmy Lou Harris.

The couples traveled to Santa Monica Beach on the first night. "The water was cold," Kepley said. "People were in bathing suits and swimming."

The day of the Grammys Sheila said that she couldn't even sleep, she was up at 4a.m. Gary told her to go back to sleep, but the excitement was to much.

They toured Rodeo Drive and saw several shops, including the one where Julia Roberts went into in the movie Pretty Women. Several shops had a cost of $10,000 to have one fitting.

The day also included a tour of stars homes. These included Mel Gibson and Aaron Spelling.

The hour finally arrived when the show was to begin.

Sheila and Gary found their seats in the balcony of the building.

"I was a good distance from the stage," she said. "I used my binoculars to see stars like Pam Anderson and Hugh Heifner." "My favorite performers included Alan Jackson, Pink, and the Soggy Bottom Boys. I really didn't like the host. He made a comment to all the radio winners asking us if we could even see him up there. He was rude."

The couple also traveled to the after party where they were able to enjoy a bit of the night life in LA. Wolf Gang Puck, a famous chief catered the party. "The food wasn't all that great," she said. "It's not all it is cracked up to be."

When ask to recount memories that are up front in her mind, Kepley said, "The smell of jasmine was everywhere. We couldn't believe the amount of palm trees, everything was green. I wish we could have stayed longer. I enjoyed the plane ride most of all."

The plane ride home was a trip all by itself. When they arrived at the airport they were told the security station had been unplugged and they were bringing people back off planes and checking them. The wait was unimaginable. It was well worth it though for Sheila because the pilot allowed her into the cock pit to sit and have her picture taken.

"Now that we are home it almost doesn't seem real," she said. "We are settling into a routine again. We only had a few days to prepare before we left and we were in such a rush."

No matter how tired they were when they got home it is definitely a trip the Kepleys will never forget.
