At approximately 5:50 a.m., as dawn rose on Macon County and many were still asleep, a collision on Highway TN 52 near Fox Run Road took the lives of Kenneth M. Bandy, 18, of Bowling Green, and Thomas W. King, 66, of Lafayette.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the investigating officer, Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Gerald Carter, a blue two-door 1995 Honda, driven by Bandy, was traveling eastbound on TN 52 when it went over the center line and struck a gray 2002 Toyota Camry driven by King.
Bandy's vehicle spun around and came to a stop, but King's vehicle flipped over the guardrail and landed on the embankment.
Bandy had to be extricated from his vehicle.
Traffic was blocked and redirected from the area while the THP Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) investigated the scene. Responders from the Macon County Sheriff's Department and Lafayette Police Department were also at the scene.
Bandy was returning home after driving his father to Westmoreland.
There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, and the THP does not suspect drugs or alcohol to be involved.
Correction: Kenneth Bandy was not returning from taking his father to Westmoreland. It is unknown at this time who he was transporting.
