The Macon County High School Tiger football team hosted region opponent, Pearl Cohn, on Friday, September 2. Macon County won the toss and elected to receive to begin the game.
In the first quarter, both team’s offense struggled against the opponent’s strong defenses. Toward the end of the quarter, Marshall Avera intercepted a pass from Pearl Cohn that ultimately led to a Tiger touchdown by Dylan Butler. The extra point attempt by Joseph Medrano was good making the score 7-0 Macon County at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Pearl Cohn answered back with a touchdown of their own early in the quarter. Their extra point attempt was good, tying the score at 7. Midway through the second quarter, Pearl Cohn scored another touchdown and an extra point, making the score 7-14 Pearl Cohn. Late in the quarter, Seth Carlisle scored another Tiger touchdown followed by a successful extra point attempt by Medrano, tying the score once again at 14.
In the second half of the game, the Tigers struggled as the Firebirds turned up the heat. In the third quarter, the Firebirds scored several touchdowns as well as a field goal, making the score 14-37. In the fourth quarter, the Firebirds kept scoring as the Tigers continued to struggle. The final score was 14-50, Pearl Cohn. This was the Tigers’ first loss of the season, giving them a 2-1 record for the season thus far.
The Tigers will travel to Jackson County on Friday, September 9 for a non-region game with the Blue Devils. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
