Rainbow trout growing in some Macon County classrooms

For the second year in a row, Kathy Woods’ 4th grade class at Lafayette Elementary will raise a few dozen rainbow trout from eggs, thanks to the “Tank in the Classrooms” project. Volunteers from the “Friends Aquarium Project”, a collaboration between the Friends of Dale Hollow National Fish Hatchery (NFH), Dale Hollow NFH, TWRA, and local schools come together to provide schools with the resources they need to raise the trout.“I love this project,” said Woods. “I want the children to learn about the life cycle of many animals. This is a great way to see that fish start out as eggs and it’s so exciting to watch them develop and grow.”

 

MC After-School program

SubmittedA free after-school program targeted to a specific age group that often gets overlooked is coming to Macon County. The Macon County (MC) After-School program will serve students currently enrolled in 7th, 8th and 9th grades. Vision 2020 Ladies Tea

Vision 2020 held a ladies tea on September 5th at the Red Boiling Springs Armour Hotel. High tea was served with a light lunch. The Macon County High Boy’s Golf Team wins District 8 A-AA Tournament held on Monday, Sept. 8th at White Plains Golf Course in Cookeville, TN. The Red Boiling Springs Jr. High School Volleyball Team opened its season this year on August 14th with a game against Gordonsville.
