The MCHS volleyball team hosted the Region 4-AA Tournament Tuesday, October 14 among an energetic crowd. With fans cheering on their feet, the Tigerettes defeated Chattanooga Christian in the semi- final round. The first set Chattanooga Christian won with a score of 25 - 20. The second set, Macon County took control and won 25-19. The third set Macon also won with a score of 25 -21. The fourth and final set sealed the win for the Tigerettes with a score of 25-9.Leading Stats: Jordan Shockley, Brandi Garmon and Kayley Scruggs each had 2 aces. Kristyn Flippin had 18 kills, Kayley Scruggs had 7 blocks, while Jordyn Patterson had 39 assists and Kristyn Flippin had 27 digs.
Compton’s Martial Arts Academy has a new location, 116 Main Street in Lafayette. Saturday, October 17, 2014 was the Re-Grand Opening and festivities. Terra Compton and her students were all smiles as they cut the ribbon. The students had a special day indeed as they participated in a belt promotion, student demonstrations and blessed the building.

The first annual Diabetes Walk took place Saturday, October 18 in Key Park. The sun was shining and it was wonderful walking weather. Anna Wilson, whose love for her daughter Beth, was compelled to take on a major fund raising event for the American Diabetes Association. Anna’s 22-year-old daughter, Beth Wilson, has been a diabetic since she was 17 months old. She was in a coma for 3 days and suffered irreparable damage. Red Ribbon Week began as an effort to develop an attitude of intolerance to the use of drugs. It was created to honor the death of Enrique Camarena, an undercover drug enforcement officer who was brutally murdered while working on a drug trafficking operation. Parent groups across the nation worked and displayed Red Ribbons to show support for a drug free community.

Fairlane Elementary students have been selling paper pumpkins and leaves “In Honor” and “In Memory” of someone with cancer to help raise money for Easton Goad’s family, who was diagnosed with liver cancer several months ago. Leslie Goad, Easton’s mom, is a Macon County teacher.As of Friday, Oct. 17th, the students have raised $850. The students would like to thank everyone who contributed and wish Easton the very best.
