Arrest made after MCSD recovered over 20 stolen items

A man was arrested in Macon County after sheriff’s deputies discovered five truckloads of stolen items. Ewing David McMurtry, 39, of 897 Wilmore Hollow Rd, Lafayette, was arrested on 10/16 by Det. Ron Smith and charged with three counts of theft of property, two counts of criminal trespassing, and aggravated burglary. His court date was set for 10/20 with a $3,000 bond, according to arrest records.The Macon County man has been arrested and charged with more than 20 thefts of household items, pictures, bibles and lawn equipment from dozens of homes.Deputies from the Macon County Sheriff’s Department are trying to connect recovered items with multiple thefts that have been reported.

 

Existing industry luncheon has huge turnout

The sun was shining and the breeze was slightly blowing a cool chill as members of the Macon County Chamber of Commerce were serving a free appreciation luncheon in Key Park, Friday, October 17. Martial arts has re-grand opening

Compton’s Martial Arts Academy has a new location, 116 Main Street in Lafayette. Saturday, October 17, 2014 was the Re-Grand Opening and festivities. Terra Compton and her students were all smiles as they cut the ribbon. The students had a special day indeed as they participated in a belt promotion, student demonstrations and blessed the building.

Walk to fund diabetes research

The first annual Diabetes Walk took place Saturday, October 18 in Key Park. The sun was shining and it was wonderful walking weather. Anna Wilson, whose love for her daughter Beth, was compelled to take on a major fund raising event for the American Diabetes Association. Anna’s 22-year-old daughter, Beth Wilson, has been a diabetic since she was 17 months old. She was in a coma for 3 days and suffered irreparable damage. Fairlane students help local teacher’s family

Fairlane Elementary students have been selling paper pumpkins and leaves “In Honor” and “In Memory” of someone with cancer to help raise money for Easton Goad’s family, who was diagnosed with liver cancer several months ago.
