Rotary District Governor Jerry Wear visits Macon

At last week’s Rotary Club meeting, past and present district governors Ray Knowis and Jerry Wear, respectively, were on hand to present awards to the club. Current DG Wear also spoke on the mission of Rotary International in both the local as well as global communities.The Rotary club is a service organization devoted to various projects supporting the community-at-large, including Makin’ Macon Fit, the Macon County 3rd Graders Dictionary Initiative, Boy Scouts, the Macon County High School Interact Club and the Junior High Interact Club, as well as scholarships. Auction for the Arts

“Auction for the Arts”, Macon County Arts Council’s annual fund raiser, is fast approaching! Last year’s money from the auction funded several of MCAC’s children’s programs. This next year the Young Americans will once again visit Macon County; this year’s profits will help fund that event. MCAC also offfers “Art in the Park ” and Teen Art Classes annually — all this thanks to help from auction contributors!

Rebuilding a hometown market

On Thursday, July 10th, evening around 4 pm, Dale Hix took a total of six minutes to tear down the old Sunshine Market. The Sunshine Market was purchased by Joyce Gregory in May of this year, with plans on rebuilding the business. The previous structure was around 1,300 square feet and the new one will be just under 2,000. The plan is for the new store to be open seven days a week, with the gas pumps open 24/7.

Traffic stops leads to theft arrest

“Quilt in a Day” Sewing Class held

SEWING is fun, especially when a project can be completed in one day! On Wednesday, July 23, 2014 that’s exactly what eight youth and four adults did. They made a beautiful, color coordinated, lap quilt. To make the project, the backing fabric is fused to the batting, then strips of fabric are sewed to both the backing and batting. Quilt as you go. After all the strips are sewed on, the binding is attached and that completes the project.

FCCLA attend National Leadership Conference in San Antonio

On July 4, 2014, sixteen members of Macon County High School FCCLA boarded a charter bus and headed out to the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas. Record-breaking numbers at early voting polls

So far, the number of early voters who have showed out at the polls is impressive. Including mail-in votes at the end of the day Tuesday, the totals are as follows: Before Friday: 30 votes. Friday (7-18): 413 votes. Saturday (7-19): 175 votes. Monday (7-21): 347 votes. Tuesday 7-22): 308 votes.This brings the total to 1273 early votes in just four days of open polls.
