Macon County experienced its first major snowfall of the season last week.  Classes were released early on Thur., Jan. 12,  and school was canceled on Friday because of icy road conditions.  Pictured above is the fountain at Key Park, which, in addition to the ground around it, was still coated with a little snow on Friday afternoon.

Although Macon County is a strongly agricultural area, it is not known for its bananas.  Imagine the surprise of some Maple Terrace residents who discovered that their banana tree which they have had for years had actually grown a stalk of bananas.  According to Macon County Agricultural Extension Agent Steve Walker, banana trees in Macon County have grown bananas in the past, but it is not a common occurrence.
