The speaker at last week’s Rotary Club meeting was Alan Johnston, Director for the Rotary District 6780 CART program. CART, (Coins for Alzheimers Research Trust) was started by the Sumter, SC Rotary Club in 1995 in order to help fund research to find a cure for the dread disease, and has since raised over 3 million dollars for the cause. Central students win iPods
Central Elementary in Lafayette gave away 10 iPods to students last week, after TCAPs were over. The winners were chosen by a drawing. Kids had the oportunity to earn tickets throughout TCAP testing—for showing up on time, for effort, and for obeying the rules.The blue iPod shuffles were given away on Tuesday, April 30.

4-H collects Caps for Chemo
Recently the Macon County 4-H Club collected caps and scarves to donate to the American Cancer Society for patients taking chemotherapy. The club had 17 members to make donations with a total of 651 items collected. The 4-H agent awarded the top 3 collectors with prize money.
