Hwy 25 back open after rockslide cleanup
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On Tuesday, May 21, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) reopened all lanes on SR 25 (Dixon Springs Highway) in Smith County. The roadway has been closed since a rockslide on May 9 th blocked both lanes near the Cumberland River Overlook. TDOT initiated an emergency contract last Monday, and cleanup began immediately. Fire in the bed of a pickup Tuesday
This photo was taken on Highway 52 in Macon County close to the OK Market near the Macon/Sumner line at 1:00 pm on Tuesday. Evidently a cigarette ignited some cardboard with plumbing glue on it in the bed of pickup truck. When the driver noticed flames in his rearview mirror he pulled over and drug the contents of his truck bed to the road. Pedestrian struck by car and killed
A Westmoreland man died on Sunday, May 19 after being struck by a car on Friday afternoon. James Chitwood, age 34, was traveling on foot north on Rocky Mound when the incident occurred. According to THP, the vehicle that struck him was driven by his girlfriend, April South, age 37. South was also traveling north on Rocky Mound when her Honda Accord struck Chitwood. County Commission asks TDOT to hurry on Hwy 10
The Macon County Legislative Body met in regular session on Monday, May 20. In it, several minutes of discussion were devoted to the Hwy 10 renovation project. Lafayette Municipal Airport awarded $19,000 grant
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announced last week that state aeronautics grants totaling $316,650 have been approved for seven Tennessee airports. Among these was our own Lafayette Municipal Airport in Macon County. The grant is for $19,000 and will be matched by $1,000 of county money.
