The US Postal Service is holding their Stamp Out Hunger food drive on Saturday, May 11. This is a national event, but our Macon County post offices will be participating, and all food donated will be organized and distributed by Macon Helps.
Everyone in the county will receive announcements and an empty sack during the week of May 11. On that Saturday, they are asked to fill the sack with nonperishable food items and hang it on their mailbox (or place inside if it’s raining).
Items should include no glass containers, said Valerie Reid of Macon Helps, “because it makes a mess and people get cut.”
Macon Helps would also welcome volunteers, Reid said. “We need drivers, and people to sort food, because it’s a big event.”
