The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee has awarded a $5000 grant to the Macon County Arts Council, which will be used to help fund a community arts project of outdoor murals on buildings around the Lafayette City Square. MCAC’s first project will be a mural depiction of Union Camp Falls, and will be placed on the Church Street side of Cathy’s Florist. Well-known local artist Linda Johnson will be completing the project.
The mural will be 12’ by 16’, completed on six sign board panels and installed later. Johnson said they don’t have a pricise date yet on completion or installation: “It depends on the weather, and it depends on how quickly we can get the paint on… the weather is really keeping us from going as quickly as we want.” She will enlist the help of local teens for the project, because, she said, “the project is all about community.”
“MCAC is excited to be sponsoring this effort,” said MCAC President Nancy Doss, “and believes the murals will be a wonderful addition to the community. The arts organization would like to express its appreciation to The Community Foundation for funding this project.”
