Veterans Day celebration in Macon County

The 2012 Veterans Day Parade for Macon County will be Monday, 12 November 2012. This year our Parade Honoree is Barry Enoch. The Parade will be held on Monday, 12 November 2012. As in previous years, the Parade will kick off at 11 AM at the County Courthouse with an opening ceremony, the Laying of the Veteran’s Day Wreath, and the playing of Taps.

The Parade will begin from the Courthouse immediately after this. It will depart the square via College Street (Hwy 10 South) to Hwy 52. It will then turn West on Hwy 52 to Ellington Drive, turning right onto Ellington Drive and proceeding to Church Street. The parade will head East on Church Street and end at Key Park.

Once at Key Park, there will be a closing ceremony/celebration with a guest speaker and entertainment followed by refreshments. If you are going to have a Parade Float or other entries in the Parade please inform Mike Scott, the County Veterans Officer at 666-4480. Lineup for the floats and other entries will be down Main Street starting at the corner of Public Square. Parade lineup begins at 10am.

The theme for this year’s Parade is “A Tribute to Veterans.” We are looking forward to a great parade and it is our sincere wish to make this a fitting tribute to our veterans.

Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor, acknowledgment of reality is a good starting point. I read in last week’s paper that upgrading Hwy 10 is not in the state budget for the next 3 years. Without doubt Mayor Linville, as well as the rest of us, needs to be concerned for the blatant disregard for the safety of our c...

Letter to the Editor
Ms. Dillehay, Your editorial last week was insightful and needed. I agree that the “Reach your dreams” speech can produce wannabes who are reluctant to do a day’s work, I believe that what we really need is a sense of balance. I believe that we need to encourage our students to reach their goa...
