The Macon County Al Menah Shriners are preparing once again for their annual paper sale. Thursday afternoon, Shriner vans pulled into Lafayette carrying a load of papers. The Lafayette Shriners gathered to unload them and to promote the sale, which will be held May 2-4, Thursday-Saturday.
This is the 43rd annual paper of its kind, published purely to raise funds for the Shriners Hospitals for Children, located in Lexington, KY and Cincinnati, OH. The paper contains stories of children who have been treated in the hospital, information about the hospital itself, and instructions on how to make further donations. The hospitals treat children under 18 who suffer from burns or orthopedic conditions, regardless of their ability to pay.
All of the money raised from the paper sale will go directly towards the hospital expenses for the children served. The Shriners said they plan to be on every corner in Macon County.
“More than 800 Middle Tennessee children are now being treated in Shrine Hospitals,” writes Recorder Bob Daniel in the paper. “Some of them have years of treatment ahead of them.”
