Johnny Ray Swack, on trial for the murder of ex-wife Reinalda Ann Dupont England, was found mentally ill in a criminal court session on Thursday, and committed to judicial hospitalization under involuntary commitment. The case has been ongoing since Swack was indicted for first degree murder, soon after the 36-year-old mother of three was found shot in the face on September 7, 2011.
“They’re going to evaluate him every six months to see if he’s capable of standing trial,” said Deputy Clerk Jennene Shrum. “It’s on the docket to be brought back up in a year’s time.” The Honorable Judge Wooten made it clear in his ruling that the case has not been dismissed, but is simply on hold until the man was deemed mentally fit.
Swack has retained Defensive Attorney Tom Bilbrey; District Attorney Tommy Thompson and Assistant DA Justin Harris represent the State in the case.
England, known as “Reina” to friends and family, was found dead in the home she shared with Johnny Swack at 412 Meador Drive from an apparent gunshot wound. Daughter Amy was quoted in the obituary saying, “she always found a way to make us happy even when we were sick, sad, or angry. Mom was a spirited young lady with a beautiful smile, a big heart, and a great personality. She’s the absolute best mom that we could ever imagine having in a million years; I was so close to her we were like best friends. This is the last thing on Earth that we could imagine happening.
“She always told me, I want you to graduate and go to college and have a better career and life than I have. She always taught me right from wrong, but I never seemed to listen. But now we are here in this position; from this day forward I’ll always be the good girl she wanted me to be. I never knew how much she tried for us until that day we found out. Mom we miss you oh so much and would love to see your beautiful face again.”
