On February 2nd MCJH Boys Basketball team played the Grassland Generals in the Championship game of the James C. Haile State Invitational Tournament in Murfreesboro.
Tonight just wasn’t the night for the Macon County Tigers. Shooting only 26% from the field, the Tigers just couldn’t get shots to fall and Grassland seemed to hit every shot they took. The Tigers started out strong with a good variety of shots, steals, rebounds, and passes. By the end of the first quarter the score was tied 9 to 9. In the second quarter the Generals began to extend their lead. The Tigers delivered a series of turnovers and missed shots. Going into the half, the Tigers trailed 13 to 19.
Starting the third quarter the Tigers were well within reach of a win. When a timeout was taken with 3:17 to go, Macon was only down 17 to 22. The Tigers began to press but the momentum was with the Generals. The third quarter ended with the Tigers down 24 to 33. During the fourth quarter many of Macon’s players were subbed and before the game was over all 8th grade Tigers played. The final score was 31 to 51 with Grassland claiming the win. The MCJH boy’s team has had an awesome season with a record of 16 wins and only 3 losses. Anyone who has watched them play this year has witnessed a great group of boys who play as a true team. Scoring for the Tigers in their final game was Dawson Brawner 9 pts., Seth Carlisle 8 pts., Kendrick Carter 8 pts., Michael Ashburn 2 pts., Cayden Shrum 2 pts., and Bryson Smith 2 pts.
