The Macon County Health Department celebrated 2012 Child Health Week last Thursday at the dept. building on Hwy 52 in Lafayette. The free educational event featured door prizes and giveaways, and vendor attendance was excellent, representing a variety of child health and well-being related fields.
These included S.T.E.P., H.U.G.S., Head Start, Valley Ridge, Heartbeat Haven, MCGH, Genesis House, TVC, United Healthcare, UCRO, Amerigroup, TENNdercare, WIC, Coordinated School Health, TN Voices for Children, and T.H.P. (not exhaustive list).
“If the parent isn’t healthy, their kids won’t know how to make those choices,” said co-organizer Melissa Doss. “The whole thing is about promoting healthier choices. Not just the physical—we’re dealing with the whole person. ”
“Everybody told me they enjoyed it,” said co-organizer Tammy Driver. “They said they learned things they didn’t know before.” Total attendance exceeded 100.
