Man on motorcycle killed in Hwy 52 wreck
by Tilly Dillehay, Editor

A man was transported from the scene without a pulse after being thrown from his motorcycle in an accident at the Hwy 10 - Hwy 52 intersection Tuesday morning. The Harley motorcycle, driven by Matthew “Brett” Minchey, 40, was headed South on Hwy 10 through the intersection when it collided with a blue Chevy sedan. The Chevy, driven by 19-year-old Danielle Jackson, was headed East on Hwy 52 and failed to stop at the stop sign, according to Corp. Jeff Hix of the Lafayette Police Department.

“I was sitting at the stop sign,” said witness Efrain Rosales, “I was waiting for him to go through, and these people came and ran the stop sign; they just ran right through it… I checked for a pulse. He had no pulse.”

Minchey was transported to Macon County General Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival, said Hix.

this is such a senseless thing to happen, for one the person running the stop should really get in trouble and for another the city of lafayette is big enough they should put red lights all the way down that street including at walmarts entrance.why with all this traffic especially at certain times of the day is so crowded can they not see the need for red lights, maybe they will when someone hits them or thier children.

Today i find out that the young driver of the peice of junk that ran over Brett was actually chasing someone who bumped her car at Mcdonalds. That is just pathetic and i hope she is charged with vehicular homicide as she should be ! She should be help accountable for her actions no matter what her age !!!!!!!!!

Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor, acknowledgment of reality is a good starting point. I read in last week’s paper that upgrading Hwy 10 is not in the state budget for the next 3 years. Without doubt Mayor Linville, as well as the rest of us, needs to be concerned for the blatant disregard for the safety of our c...

Ms. Dillehay, Your editorial last week was insightful and needed. I agree that the “Reach your dreams” speech can produce wannabes who are reluctant to do a day’s work, I believe that what we really need is a sense of balance. I believe that we need to encourage our students to reach their goa...
