Students in the Teen Art Classes hosted by MCAC fired up their creations on Thursday, completing the clay workshop series.
“This process is an old Chinese process,” said teacher Linda Johnson. “Occidation is when you use an electric kiln, with more oxygen than fuel. But when you reduce it it turns black. In a reduction atmosphere for firing, that’s when you get glazed, dark pieces.” This is called Raku.
The drawing series begins July 2. Like the clay, these classes will be Mondays and Thursdays for two weeks.
