The Education Foundation of Macon County awarded $14,119 of grant money in an afternoon ceremony on Wednesday, December 5.
The grants went to various Macon educators to fund specific classroom projects. Of the eighteen applicants who applied, eight were approved by the Macon County Education Foundation Mini-Grant Committee. This committee is comprised of Carolyn Whitaker, Linda McCrary, Katherine Raum, Nancy White, Pete Williston and Chair Renee Austin.
Award recipients were as follows:
- Pam Reid of Miss Pam’s Daycare was awarded $1,497 for her project, “Math, More than Numbers.”
- Elaine Patterson of Laugh-N-Learn Preschool was awarded $1,441 for her project, “One Block at a Time.”
- Christy Patch and Nicole Blankenship of RBS Elementary were awarded $1,857 for their project, “First Grade Tech Savvy Classroom.”
- Tammy Mea, Colleen Castellanos, and Brandy Fleming of RBS Elementary were awarded $2,499 for their project, “Live a Thousand Lives Through Daily 5.”
- Kimberly Hale of Lafayette Elementary was awarded $1,483 for her project, “Reading ReKindled: Using ereaders to generate excitement and motivate readers.”
- Angie Shoulders and Tammy Brawner of Macon County High School were awarded $2,489 for their project, “TI-Plus.”
- Tonia Powell of Fairlane Elementary was awarded $1,250 for “Teach to the Core Using Apple.”
- Kara Wheet, Erica Woodard, and Jennifer Pitcock of Central Elementary were awarded $1,500 for their project, “I Can with iPads.”
The funding for these awards came from the Education Foundation’s annual auction fundraiser, from county government and federal funding, and from private donors.
