A 21-year-old man sustained head and probable internal injuries in a one vehicle wreck on Hwy 141 Tuesday morning.
Harley Daniel Davis was driving a Honda Civic south on the highway when he lost control on a curve and crossed the center line. The vehicle turned 180 degrees, struck a tree on the passenger side, bounced off and turned another 180 in the other direction, and came to rest lodged against a second tree.
The motion of the vehicle and force of impact threw Davis into the back seat and crushed the front of the vehicle against the tree. THP Trooper Danny Fisher said that Davis was apparently speeding and not wearing a seat belt.
Tammy Sullivan, a dispatcher for Macon County who happened to be one of two civilians who arrived on the scene first and called 911, said that Davis was conscious but not responsive. “He kept curling up like he wanted to go to sleep, so I was talking to him just trying to keep him awake—he looked at me, but he wouldn’t talk.”
“It’s strange to be on this end of things,” Sullivan said later.
Fisher said that Davis had sustained head injuries and probable internal injuries.
Responding to the scene was EMS, THP, an extraction unit, Lafayette Fire Department, and Macon County Sheriff Department. AirEvac and LifeFlight both declined to transport Davis for weather reasons; he was reportedly taken to Vanderbilt via ambulance.
